Watch Video from the
interdisciplinary program, “The High Road
to a True Smart Grid”, based on the paper "Getting Smarter
About the Smart Grid" held at the Commonwealth Club of California, January
28, 2014. The program included Dr. Timothy Schoechle, Duncan Campbell, Esq.,
Karl Maret, MD., Eng., Jim Turner,Esq. and Camilla Rees, MBA.
The Commonwealth Club
program reviewed misunderstandings about the value of ‘smart meters’ being
rolled out across the country, and the misguided direction of electricity and
energy policy in the U.S. The panelists outlined a blueprint for a safer and
smarter approach to both electricity generation and distribution in the United
States. They described the roots of electricity paralysis in the United
States, and what it will to take to create a reliable, safe, and sustainable
electricity grid without the security, health and privacy concerns. Watch this
program to learn how the smart meter rebellion is only the “tip of the iceberg”
in a highly dysfunctional energy economy, where federal underwriting of
unnecessary meters has wastefully enabled a dying utility model in desperate
need of transformation to persist.
Upgrading the U.S.
electricity grid sensibly has everything to do with ratepayer costs, the
potential for sustainable energy independence, global economic competitiveness,
preservation of natural resources, national security and the looming threat to
life on Earth from man-made global warming. Listen to this panel and learn
why--and what kind of grid citizens should get behind. Learn the advantages of
local or 'distributed' renewable generation and microgrids.
