No more intrusive emails: German hotel wraps rooms in iron grid to block wireless internet signals at the flick of a switch

  • Spa in Baden-Baden, Germany offers rooms blocking wi-fi signals
  • Rooms are are clad in metal shields and a special blocking coating
  • Research has found that 182million are addicted to the internet
A German spa hotel has come up with a way to create ultimate relaxation for their guests - by introducing a switch that blocks the internet.

The Villa Stéphanie, at Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa in Baden-Baden, offers rooms where the walls are clad in metal shields and a special coating that blocks wireless signals from the outside.

The €1,115-a-night 'Digital Detox' rooms come with a bedside switch that allows the entire room to be disconnected from the electricity supply.

Special shielded cables have also been used throughout the entire building significantly reducing electro-magnetic fields (so-called 'electrosmog').

'In a world where people are connected practically around the clock, there is a need for places of retreat where it is possible to relax and focus on yourself,' Frank Marrenbach, Managing Director of Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa and CEO of Oetker Collection said.
'It is for these reasons that the Villa Stéphanie has been created.'

Global research has found that almost 182 million people are addicted to using the the internet, social media and smartphones.

Earlier this year, a study revealed that 11 per cent of UK adults(5.7 million) suffer from what psychologists have dubbet NetBrain.

It is a new technology related disorder where sufferers show increased levels of narcissism, poor attention span and fear of missing out (FOMO).

People with 'NetBrain' are also more likely to gamble online and regularly use social networks and gaming.

Unsurprisingly, people with smartphones are almost three times more likely to score highly for NetBrain than those without.

ACC Utility Engineer Can't Do Basic Math

ACC Utility Engineer Can't Do Basic Math

Information & Perspective by Warren Woodward
Sedona, Arizona ~ July 3, 2015

I just received another batch of emails and documents from the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) via a Public Records Request. One of the emails, dated February 9, 2015 is from ACC Utility Engineer Margaret Little to ACC Utility Engineer Jeff Francis.

Little forwarded Francis a news story entitled, “AMI saves Central Maine Power $8 million in 1 year.” Little added this comment, “Wow! – a savings reported due to Smart Meters. Awesome.”

Evidently poor Margaret Little cannot do basic math, nor is she capable of the critical thought necessary to recognize propaganda when she sees it.

Central Maine Power (CMP) claims it did not lay off any meter readers but instead shifted them to other positions. Supposedly the savings then come from reduced “truck rolls.” CMP claims it reduced costs due to 1.4 million fewer annual vehicle miles traveled.

1.4 million miles sounds impressive. But when you divide $8 million by 1.4 you realize that CMP is valuing each mile at the ridiculously inflated amount of $5.71. Persons deducting mileage on their taxes might be interested in learning more about CMP's method.

Let's assume for sake of argument that CMP's bogus '$8 million in one year' figure is actually true.

CMP's “smart” grid cost $195.9 million. If the $8 million is true, it will take CMP 24.5 years to recoup the $195.9M that was spent. Is that “Awesome?”

But wait, since “smart” meters only have about a 15 year life, the time needed to recoup the $195.9 million will get pushed farther into the future. Then of course the huge, ongoing costs associated with operating and maintaining the “smart” grid will push the time out even farther.

Meanwhile, the $8 million “savings” has been passed on to CMP ratepayers in the form of a 4% rate increase to pay for CMP's “smart” grid. Only at the ACC could that be considered “Awesome.”

The woman 'allergic to ELECTRICITY': 50-year-old dons protective suit and veil to go outside as she claims Wi-Fi could kill her

The woman 'allergic to ELECTRICITY': 50-year-old dons protective suit and veil to go outside as she claims Wi-Fi could kill her

  • Jackie Lindsey, 50, claims she has electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS)
  • Says the condition - not recognised by doctors in the UK - means she is allergic to electricity and Wi-Fi and phones could cause shock

  • Has ditched all electrical products and uses candles and gas in her home
  • Wears a suit and veil woven with silver to reflect magnetic current and doesn't leave home without an electromagnetic field testing device

On the rare occasion Jackie Lindsey goes outside, she wears a full silver suit complete with a veil to hide her entire body and face.

Neighbours have said the 50-year-old’s outfit makes her look like a ‘demented bee keeper’.

But rather than tending to a hive, Ms Lindsey, 50, claims she needs the suit as she is allergic to electricity.

She has diagnosed herself with electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS), and says anyone using Wi-Fi or a mobile phone signal around her could cause her to have an attack similar to an anaphylactic shock.

This is an extreme, often life-threatening allergic reaction.

As a result, she has ditched all electrical products in her life, turned off the power in her home and uses candles for light and gas for heating and cooking.

The suit she wears to venture outside has silver woven into the fabric to reflect the magnetic fields around her.

And she also uses an electromagnetic field testing device (EMF) to measure the magnetic current in the air, when out in public.

Ms Lindsey led a normal life as a rental landlord until eight years ago when she started suffering neurological symptoms - dizzy spells, shooting pains in her eyes and numbness in her hands - but no medical explanation could be found.

She started doing her own research and after three years of not knowing what was wrong she discovered EHS.

The condition is not yet recognised by the medical profession in the UK but it is regarded as a disability in Sweden.

According to the charity ES UK, four per cent of the population now suffer from the condition and the figure is likely to rise due to society becoming ever reliable on modern technology.

Ms Lindsey now lives like a recluse in a rural location in Wimborne, Dorset, after being forced to sell her old semi-detached house because she could feel her neighbour's electricity.

She carries the EMF tester with her to check her surroundings if she feels unwell or in pain.

On a good day she can run into a shop for five minutes without being too badly affected by things like fluorescent lighting and checkout scanning devices but most of the time she relies on deliveries or family bringing her shopping.

She said: 'I was relieved when my research brought up the disorder of EHS because it made sense with the symptoms I had been suffering on and off for years.

'But it's difficult to be taken seriously. Lots of sufferers lose friends and family because they can't understand it and think the person has gone mad.

One person described my outfit as a demented beekeeper suit, I thought that was quite right
Jackie Lindsey, 50
'I do feel insulted by GPs when they tell you it's in your head.

'It's not that long ago that the medical profession told people with ME it was all in their heads.

'I've lost everything in life that makes you feel human.

' I can't go on holiday and feel sad at Christmas and festive times when I want to join in but can't.

'I have to live by gas which means waiting 12 hours to get hot water and using candles to light the place.

'I wear the suit whenever I leave the house, it has 20 per cent silver woven into the fabric which reflects the magnetic field. It doesn't give that much protection but it allows me to be out a bit longer.

'When I wear it people usually treat me like I'm highly contagious, but I'm past caring. One person described it as a demented beekeeper suit, I thought that was quite right.

'If it means I can sit in a pub garden, have a glass of wine and feel human again then I don't care if people avoid me or look me up and down.

'The main thing is knowing what to look out for, when I moved I avoided areas with phone masts, street lamps and power cables.

'I do miss normal life, I miss being able to visit friends and Christmas time. It is isolating but unfortunately that's the way it has to be.'

Sarah Dacre, trustee of ES UK which helps people who have become sensitive to everyday electrical appliances, said: 'The symptoms of EHS are becoming increasingly common.
'Four per cent of the population are severely affected by the condition while 30 to 40 per cent are mildly affected.

'There are a range of symptoms but the most common are headaches during the day when using technology, vertigo, sleeplessness, digestive intolerance, rashes and an irregular heartbeat.

'In some cases, sufferers can feel the effects of someone using a smartphone for 40ft away that might even result in collapse.

'It is a similar reaction to an anaphylactic shock.

'Across the NHS the condition is not recognised but an increasing number of doctors are starting to become aware of it.'

WHAT IS SENSITIVITY TO ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES?

Up to four per cent of the general population believe themselves to be affected by electro- or radiosensitivity and experience flu-like symptoms, headaches, lethargy and nausea when exposed to various electrical appliances.

It is not recognised as a disability or a medical condition in the UK,
Many medics are sceptical about electromagnetic hypersensitivity syndrome and research has not provided any official statistics.

The condition is not officially recognised by the NHS.

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES
Electromagnetic waves are everywhere and we are constantly bombarded by them from space.

Although there is no evidence of any permanent damage to the body from electromagnetic waves, some people have reported that they feel unwell when they are within reach of Wi-Fi or, occasionally, other types of electromagnetism.

Wi-Fi uses the same type as mobile phones, TV and radio signals.

They are all different in wavelength, so have different properties.

Wi-Fi waves are higher in frequency than mobile phones and are intense due to the amount of info they carry.

So far research has not provided any official statistics.

Oregon launches program to tax drivers by the mile

Oregon launches program to tax drivers by the mile

Published July 03, 2015

David Hastings is a rare American. This long-time hybrid car owner from Oregon wants to pay higher taxes for roads and bridges and says the current 30 cents per gallon state gas tax barely affects him.
"I've been free-loading on the highways for 20 years driving electric cars or hybrid cars, getting at least 40 miles to the gallon. So I haven't been paying my share," Hastings said.

Now, Hastings will pay more thanks to OReGO -- the first pay-by-the-mile program in the U.S.

Oregon’s Department of Transportation has been working on it for 15 years as a way to eventually replace the gas tax, which has been flat due to an influx of high mileage vehicles and people driving less.
Right now the program is voluntary and being capped at 5,000 participants, but an ODOT official told Fox News the ultimate goal is to make it mandatory and change the way states pay for roads -- forever.

"We're trying to make up for a growing deficit, really, because inflation's eating away at our ability to buy asphalt and rebar and the things we need to maintain the roads," said Tom Fuller of the Oregon Department of Transportation.

According to a national usage fee alliance, 28 states are in various stages of following down the same road. However, there are also privacy concerns. Two of the three OReGO systems track and store a car’s every move.

"To put a GPS monitor in everybody's car, the government already knows too much about us as it is," Jeff Kruse, a Republican lawmaker told Fox News.

Others are raising questions about the cost. Getting the gas tax is cheap, but OReGO vendors will eat up 40 cents of every dollar collected, and for those not used to paying any gas tax, it could be a whole new sticker shock – every month.

Jeff Allen, of “Drive Oregon,” supports the one and a half cent per mile usage fee -- to a point.

"We need to be subsidizing and incentivizing electric cars and not putting more taxes or fees on them, not discouraging people from buying them in any way," Allen said.

Dan Springer joined Fox News Channel (FNC) in August 2001 as a Seattle-based correspondent.

Spiral ganglion neuron damage from mobile phone EMR

Spiral ganglion neuron damage from mobile phone EMR

Sensitivity of spiral ganglion neurons to damage caused by mobile phone electromagnetic radiation will increase in lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in vitro model
Zuo WQ, Hu YJ, Yang Y, Zhao XY, Zhang YY, Kong W, Kong WJ. Sensitivity of spiral ganglion neurons to damage caused by mobile phone electromagnetic radiation will increase in lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in vitro model. J Neuroinflammation. 2015 May 29;12:105. doi: 10.1186/s12974-015-0300-1.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: With the increasing popularity of mobile phones, the potential hazards of radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) on the auditory system remain unclear. Apart from RF-EMR, humans are also exposed to various physical and chemical factors. We established a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in vitro model to investigate whether the possible sensitivity of spiral ganglion neurons to damage caused by mobile phone electromagnetic radiation (at specific absorption rates: 2, 4 W/kg) will increase.

METHODS: Spiral ganglion neurons (SGN) were obtained from neonatal (1- to 3-day-old) Sprague Dawley® (SD) rats. After the SGN were treated with different concentrations (0, 20, 40, 50, 100, 200, and 400 μg/ml) of LPS, the Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) and alkaline comet assay were used to quantify cellular activity and DNA damage, respectively. The SGN were treated with the moderate LPS concentrations before RF-EMR exposure. After 24 h intermittent exposure at an absorption rate of 2 and 4 W/kg, DNA damage was examined by alkaline comet assay, ultrastructure changes were detected by transmission electron microscopy, and expression of the autophagy markers LC3-II and Beclin1 were examined by immunofluorescence and confocal laser scanning microscopy. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) production was quantified by the dichlorofluorescin-diacetate assay.

RESULTS: LPS (100 μg/ml) induced DNA damage and suppressed cellular activity (P < 0.05). LPS (40 μg/ml) did not exhibit cellular activity changes or DNA damage (P > 0.05); therefore, 40 μg/ml was used to pretreat the concentration before exposure to RF-EMR. RF-EMR could not directly induce DNA damage. However, the 4 W/kg combined with LPS (40 μg/ml) group showed mitochondria vacuoles, karyopyknosis, presence of lysosomes and autophagosome, and increasing expression of LC3-II and Beclin1. The ROS values significantly increased in the 4 W/kg exposure, 4 W/kg combined with LPS (40 μg/ml) exposure, and H2O2 groups (P < 0.05, 0.01).

CONCLUSIONS: Short-term exposure to radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation could not directly induce DNA damage in normal spiral ganglion neurons, but it could cause the changes of cellular ultrastructure at special SAR 4.0 W/kg when cells are in fragile or micro-damaged condition. It seems that the sensitivity of SGN to damage caused by mobile phone electromagnetic radiation will increase in a lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation in vitro model.
