'Mobile cos must follow tower guidelines'
Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has directed mobile companies to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Central Government while installing mobile towers. The guidelines provide that the mobile towers must not be installed in 100-metre radius of schools, hospitals and residential colonies. Passing the above directive, a division bench, comprising Justice Tarun Agrawal and Justice AK Sharma, directed the Union Government of India along with American Tower Corporation and Airtel Communication Corporation, who are respondent in the petition to file their respective replies (counter affidavits).
The court passed the above order on a writ petition filed by one Sudami Devi. The petitioner had challenged the order of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Gorakhpur, dated November 2, 2013 by which he had permitted to install a mobile tower in residential area. Passing the above directive, the court extended the interim order by which the order of SDM dated November 2, 2013 was stayed.
