Protest Picnic, Oakville, Ontario
May Day Picnic : please join us Sunday, May 6th, noon, for a May Day Family Picnic on the grounds of Fire Station #1, corner of Bronte and Rebecca.
We will gather to demonstrate our desire for our community to remain healthy and safe for all: to tell Bell NOT TO TURN THE COMMERCIAL ANTENNA ON. Come out to signal your intent to carry on opposing this new use of the fire station emergency communications antenna. We invite neighbours, friends, and family to join us in visible opposition to the electrosmog pollution that these new antenna would subject us to 24/7.
Bell Canada and the Town of Oakville chose to locate these antenna here, they can choose to relocate them to locations with appropriate setbacks protecting the firefighters, the children in the day care, the churches, school and the residences that are well under the Town of Oakville's 200 meter set-back protocol. Our people and our community demand better. Mayday is an emergency procedure word used internationally as a distress signal in radio communications. The word derives from the French venez m'aider, meaning "come help me", and is used by firefighters. The call is always given three times in a row ("Mayday Mayday Mayday"). We invite anyone concerned about the risk of radio frequency radiation to stop by, and urge you to join us in showing your opposition. Bring your family, your picnic and a bright coloured blanket!
Please read this article on stealth towers in residential backyards, and warn your neighbours not to be taken in by salespeople offering long-term contracts. If this practice spreads, it will soon pit neighbour against neighbour in communities across Canada.
Oakville Beaver on Stealth Towers Dana Anderson, senior planning services director for the Town of Oakville says in this article "We have no jurisdiction. If one of the proponents went to Industry Canada with a proposal to put a cell tower, under 15 metres, anywhere in the town, it's exempt. So there is no protocol, no consultation, we have no involvement." - Dana Anderson, senior planning services director. She is correct on PRIVATE property, however on Town property the Town has 100% authority. The Fire Station #1 tower is on Town property.
VIP Town Meeting The Town has scheduled the postponed meeting on changes to Cell Tower set-backs: Monday, May 14, 2012. Please register to speak or just come to show Council the people of Oakville CARE, we demand they respect the precautionary principle and put SAFETY FIRST: do NOT lower standards, throw up their hands and allow the telecom industry free reign in Oakville. We know better, we can do better, Oakville can take a leadership role in this, and join the World Health Organization in calling for minimized exposures.
Signalling to Council that you care enough to show your support by attending and by offering input to us in advance would be very much appreciated. To register to speak, call 905 845-6601 and ask to speak to the Clerk's office.

This study involves voluntary participation from members of the community at three levels of involvement. This is open to anyone who lives within 1000 meters of the fire hall who is 18 years or older. Those who are younger would require a parent to complete the form weekly. As part of the study (open to a few of those who sign up for the study) professionals will conduct radiation monitoring in your home. This is in addition to baseline monitoring at different distances from the antenna several times during the coming year, to map the area for radiation.
