(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Doctors are urging expectant mothers to cool it when it comes to technology.

Visiting U.S. scholar, Dr. Devra Davis and a group of health advocates are launching the Baby Safe Project.

It warns pregnant women about the dangers of wireless radiation exposure to the womb, and its link to neurological and behavioral problems in children.

"Right now, we are treating our children like experiments in a subject with no controls," said Dr. Hugh Taylor, with New Haven Hospital. "Moving that phone away from your body even a little bit can have a fairly profound impact on radiation exposure."

Dr. Davis says the danger can go beyond your phone, though.

She urges pregnant women to take precautions like:

  • Never hold a wireless device against your body
  • Turn off your wi-fi router when it's not in use
  • Use your cellphone on speaker with a headset
