The Sooke School District #62 (BC) has denied the appeal of three young children with an environmental intolerance to WiFi (wireless internet) and other cellular devices emanating microwave, radio frequency radiation, medically known as Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS). The children's request to the school board: one school free of wireless radiation; to instead utilize hard wired communications to access the internet and to make phone calls to prevent the onset of ill symptoms associated with microwave sickness (i.e. headaches, fast heart rate, chest pain, dizziness, nausea, concentration and memory problems, anxiety, sleep disorders, extreme fatigue, tremors, reoccurring infection, impaired immune function, skin rash, facial flushing, abdominal pain, nosebleeds, ringing in the ears, and more). These children all have medical diagnosis by their family doctors, and have written advice by the doctors to avoid radiofrequency and microwave radiation. Such medical requests are being entirely ignored and no accommodation has been offered by the School District.

These children with electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) have been forced to leave not only their respective schools, but the district as well, since there is currently NO school available that is free of Wi-Fi networks. The parents have formally brought forward the issue to every level of school and school board and their cases have been consistently ignored and denied.

An attorney specializing in this field has been engaged to represent the concerned families in this appeal process. Estimated legal fees associated with a comprehensive appeal to the Ministry of Education are ~ $5,000; all funds collected will go exclusively towards these costs.
At this time, the parents have to appeal the decision to the BC Ministry of Education so that their children can return to school - a right afforded all Canadian children.
There is no place for discrimination in schools. We ask that you please support these children. Your assistance will solely fund this important legal challenge. Also, children in many parts of Canada are faced with the same injustice. If accommodation is achieved through this appeal process, it will be a precedent-setting case for other school districts across our province and country.
