A powerful new documentary has been unveiled, directed by Werner Herzog, highlighting the lasting effects of texting and driving. A continuation of the “Texting & Driving … It Can Wait” spots launched in May by wireless carriers AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile USA, and Verizon, the 30-minute documentary puts a face to those who are living with the consequences of preventable accidents. “When you get a message while driving, it’s hard not to pick up your phone,” said Herzog. “With this film, we want to help make people more aware of the potential consequences of that action.” The documentary comes as part of the It Can Wait campaign, developed by BBDO New York, which is aiming to drive awareness of the dangers of texting while driving, and encourages individuals to pledge not to text and drive, and enables those who have made a personal commitment to influence others. The wireless carriers are sharing the film with over 40,000 US high schools and safety advocates and making it available, for free, to the public. The carriers have also posted it to their YouTube sites, and have made it available as on-demand content for customers of AT&T U-verse.
