Have you ever reached into your coat pocket or handbag to check your cellphone, only to break into a cold sweat after realizing you've left it at home? If so, you're not alone.
A new study conducted by OnePoll found that 66 per cent of people suffer from a crippling fear of being away from their mobile phone, a condition known as nomophobia.
Nomophobia (no mobile phone phobia) was first coined in 2008. At the time, experts estimated 53 per cent of people qualified as nomophobic, according to the Daily Mail.
The OnePoll study, commissioned by tech firm SecurEnvoy, surveyed 1,000 people about their cellphone habits. Seventy-seven per cent of respondents aged 18 to 24 said they had nomophobia, compared to 68 per cent of 25-to-54-year-olds and 62 per cent of people 55 years or older.
Forty-one per cent of people surveyed also said they owned two or more cellphones to ensure they are connected to a network at all times.
