ANOTHER proposed MTN cell phone tower has earned the ire of local communities. This time uMgeni Park residents have not only raised health concerns, but have also claimed that the cell phone giant and the company hired to construct the tower, Illanga Technologies, have used underhanded methods to secure the project.
The recent tower, proposed for Abergeni Crescent, is set to be 25 metres tall and will encompass an eight by eight-metre hub, containing cooling equipment and power generators.
“This equipment will be making a constant humming noise, and when the power goes off and the generators kick in it will turn into a terrible racket. We don’t want to live near that,” said one of the residents, Garry Smith.
Joe Campanini, whose property lies next to the one appointed for the tower, added that his four-year-old son’s bedroom would be 12 metres away from the proposed tower.
“It is unacceptable that he should be exposed to that constant noise, let alone being bombarded with the concentrated radio frequency (RF) signals 24/7,” said his wife Faatima.
“Unlike cell phones, which are an individual choice to have, this mast is not something that we chose. It is being placed here by MTN. We have heard that there is no conclusive proof to the health implications, but do we have to wait until someone dies?” said Smith.
“Just with it being erected next to my property my home and every other home is set to devalue by 35 to 50 per cent,” said Joe
“Nobody wants these towers here. We have enough towers in the area and this tower is dividing our community,” added Faatima.
She said the homeowner, whose property was selected to host the tower, was never informed by Illanga Technologies of the ‘possible risks’.
Residents have been urged to e-mail their objections through tolucky.bokoana@durban.gov.za before 14 March.

MTN responds
Paul Buttery, senior regional manager, for MTN denied allegations that Ilanga Technologies failed to disclose the ‘potential risks’ associated with the tower.
“Ilanga Technologies did verbally explain to the landlord on numerous occasions that there is no proven health risk caused by erecting a tower on her property. Ilanga Technologies suggested the use of a tree mast as it can be aesthetically pleasing and enhance the value of her property. At the time the landlord did not show any concerns for any health or safety risks,” he said.

Last year the residents of Umhlanga Manors emerged victorious in their battle against the application to install an MTN cell mast. However, Durban North and Redhill residents are now objecting to the errection of towers in their communities.

Hmm! I wonder if there is a connection between the increasing levels of cancer — especially brain cancer, especially in Napa County, and especially among children and adolescents — and what Dr. Nicolas Gonzales has to say? It is good to see that doctors are now catching on with what I have been saying for over the last ten years. ;)

Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, Renowned New York City Physician, Talks About Health Risks from Electromagnetic Fields

"...There is no question that the proliferation of EMF activity in the environment is creating havoc  among patients, among healthy people who then become patients. There is no question that it has led, I believe, or at least contributed to the increase in cancer rates. I was talking to a friend of mine, who is a physician, just this morning. I was talking about the explosion of cancer in children. Childhood cancer is exploding exponentially, not linearly, but exponentially. Well, why is that? Well, all these kids are on little devices. I watched my wife's nephew; he's eight years old. The guy is superb. He's been on a computer since he was three years old. My neighbor has a two-year-old, three-year-old baby... child. He's on a computer. (Unintelligible). They grow up with that. And they are on these hours a day. I didn't grow up with that. I grew up in the old days when you took your bicycle out in the dirt. Now they have all this computer technology with all these EMFs they are being exposed to. And then people wonder why brain cancer levels are increasing, why are these rare cancers increasing in children? Of course it is increasing. Yes, it is a complicated issue. It's the increased pollution. Pollution isn't getting better; it's getting worse. The quality of the food for the average person who doesn't eat organically is not getting better; it is getting worse. GMOs are a nightmare that didn't exist 15 years ago. GMO foods I believe are toxic. And then you get the whole EMF thing which is like this hidden mystery that no one is addressing — even people in the alternative world tend to ignore it. It is no longer enough to eat organically, and do your carrot juice, and take your supplements, and do your detoxification. Great! But what are you going to do about about EMFs if you are living above a router which is giving you enough electricity to send a rocket to the moon? It's a real serious issue...."

Childhood cancer rate soars in Northern California counties

kids
PALO ALTO, California – California’s upward trend in the rates of new cancer diagnoses of children and youth up to age 19 closely mirrors that of the nation, but in a number of Northern California counties, rates have risen precipitously between 2000-2004 and 2008-2012, according to Kidsdata.org of the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health.

In Napa and Marin counties (near San Francisco), rates rose by 69 percent and 58 percent, to reach 22.8 and 21.5 per 100,000, respectively—the highest in the state.

Napa explores reasons for high cancer rates

In addition, the group Kidsdata.org reported Napa County from 2008-2012 had 22.8 cancer incidents per 100,000 children, the highest rate in the state. That compares to the statewide rate of 17.5 and marks an increase from the county’s 2002-2004 rate of 13.5.
The county will look at whether this rise in local childhood cancers is a trend or a statistical anomaly. Marin, Sonoma, Sacramento and San Mateo counties also saw significant increases.

Weak RF fields may indeed be able to promote cancer, according to two leading members of the EMF/RF research community. Frank Barnes and Ben Greenebaum are offering theoretical arguments to explain how low-level RF radiation can alter the growth rates of cancer cells. They present their ideas in an article which has just appeared in the IEEE Power Electronics Magazine.

Scientists Link Eye Cancer to Mobile Phones

Scientists Link Eye Cancer to Mobile Phones

THE SUNDAY TIMES: NEWS, January 14 2001, BRITAIN
by Jonathan Leake, Science Editor
MOBILE phones have been linked to human cancer in a scientific study for the first time. The research suggests there is a threefold increase in eye cancers among people who regularly use the devices. The results will cause concern within the mobile telecoms industry.
The radiation emitted from mobile phones has long been known temporarily to alter the workings of brain cells but there was previously no evidence of permanent damage to health.
If confirmed by subsequent research, the finding could lead to thousands of costly lawsuits by people with eye and possibly brain cancers.
More than 20 million people in Britain have mobile phones.
The research, published in the journal Epidemiology, was carried out by a team from the University of Essen, in Germany. It investigated a form of eye cancer called uveal melanoma, in which tumours form in the layer that makes up the iris and base of the retina.
Cell Phone Radiation Shield - MRET Plant Seed Test
Dr Andreas Stang, who led the research, said he had examined 118 people with uveal melanoma and obtained details about their use of digital mobile phones. This was compared with a control group of 475 people without the disease.
To prevent bias, the researchers were not told if the person theywere examining suffered from cancer or was healthy. When the results were analysed they found the cancer victims had a much higher rate of mobile phone use, though Stang cautions that his study needs confirmation.
The mechanism by which the radiation might cause cancer is uncertain but it is known that the watery contents of the eye assists the absorption of radiation. Other research showed that cells called melanocytes found in the uveal layer started growing and dividing more rapidly when exposed to microwave radiation.
Since uveal melanoma starts within such cells, there is a ready-made mechanism by which mobile phone radiation might help to initiate cancer, especially in people with a genetic predisposition to the condition.
Last year the Stewart inquiry into mobile phone safety, appointed by the government, found no evidence to link the devices with brain tumours or any other disorder. However, last month saw the launch of multi-billion-pound lawsuits against Verizon Horizon, an American mobile phone company 45% owned by Vodaphone, the biggest British provider. Customers claim they got brain tumours and other conditions from using the devices.
Vodaphone said it welcomed new research but there was still no positive evidence that mobile phones harmed health.

A Brave New World Part II: Wi-Fi Aware

A Brave New World Part II: Wi-Fi Aware

Excerpt

WI-Fi Aware, sounds like an activist group but far from it. It is essentially a concept of social engineering where the corporations designing and building the Internet of Things (IoT) are creating a social order where humans will be totally immersed in a microwave saturated virtual IoT matrix, unable to function outside of it and perhaps with everyone implanted with a RFID chip to always stay connected, even without a smart phone. As Google has said, people who attempt to opt-out will be viewed with suspicion and will need “special attention”.

But at least we will have all these wonderful toys to play with, at least to the IoT becomes self aware…. Interesting reading here is from the IT tech online magazine: Information Age: Insight and analysis for IT leaders The autonomous Internet of Things: how the IoT will become context-aware and self-sufficient….. Wi-Fi Aware, sometimes shortened to just Aware, is the culmination of a lot of research and development by some of the biggest companies around the world. We’re talking Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, Cisco, and all the other participating members of the Wi-Fi Alliance….. It’s a refined example of the Internet of Things, an idea that describes a network of interconnected devices where all the devices are constantly sending information back and forth without any human involvement.
