The electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from mobile towers is so powerful that it affects the biological systems of birds, insects, and even humans. The study, released by the environment ministry, called for the protection of flora and fauna by law.

'The review of existing literature shows that the EMRs are interfering with the biological systems in more ways than one and there had already been some warning bells sounded in the case on bees and birds, which probably heralds the seriousness of this issue and indicates the vulnerability of other species as well,' the study found.

In September of 2010, the ministry established a 10-member committee under Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) with director Asad Rahmani to study the impact of cellphone towers on birds and bees. The group of experts reviewed 919 studies performed in India and abroad regarding the effects of cellphone towers on birds, insects, animals, wildlife, and humans.

What the group found was quite startling.

Of the 919 studies, a staggering 593 showed the negative impact of mobile towers on birds, bees, humans, wildlife and plants. The experts even cited an international study that pinpointed cellphone towers as a potential cause in the decline of animal populations. They went on to say that there was an urgent need to focus more scientific attention on the subject before it was too late.

In addition to calling for a law protecting urban flora and fauna from emerging threats of electromagnetic radiation, the experts are also suggesting bold signs and messages on the dangers of cell phone tower and radiation to be posted near the position of cellphone towers.

'To prevent overlapping high radiations fields, new towers should not be permitted within a radius of one kilometre of existing towers. If new towers must be built, construct them to be above 80 feet and below 199 feet … to avoid the requirement for aviation safety lighting,' it said.

The negative effects of EMR on life is something that has been ignored by health officials and legislators for years. As cellphone subscriptions outnumber the total number of US citizens, more and more mobile phone towers are popping up around the globe. As the experts cautioned, it is extremely pertinent that further independent research is conducted to highlight the dangers of EMR.

Most authorities are OK with wifi, but there’s a growing rebellion

For the past half decade, Ontario school board officials have maintained wifi is safe in schools. Still, the public remains skeptical, indeed increasingly so.

Recently, parents in the York region have been lobbying to remove wifi — the low-level radiofrequency energy that allows computers and smart phones to communicate wirelessly — from elementary schools, threatening to pull their children out of class and protest at Queen’s Park if they don’t see action.

“The concern is cancer, of course,” says Lynnette Haralampopoulos, a 40-year-old MRI technologist, who has son and daughter in elementary school.

“My child is in there for 5 days a week, 6 hours a day being pulsed with microwaves,” she says, “it doesn’t matter whether it’s in the bathroom or in the classroom, they’re getting radiation.”

The York parents are only the latest in a wave of opponents. Over the summer, the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario set up a committee to study the technology. Earlier this fall, two private schools in Ontario, Wayside Academy in Peterborough and Pretty River Academy in Collingwood, quietly dismantled their school’s wifi and last week the issue came up spontaneously during a Toronto Public Library Board Meeting.

The movement has inspired a small industry of wifi gurus, like Magda Havas, an associate professor of environment at Trent University, who lectures at events hosted by wifi activists and politicians, including green party leader Elizabeth May. Havas’ online videos on the perils of what she calls electrosmog and electrosensitivity — headaches, dizziness and nausea said to be caused by wifi — are watched by hundreds.

According to the City of Toronto, “There is no health reason to avoid the use of wifi.” Generally, Canadian school boards and government agencies of all jurisdictional levels agree.

However, the spectre of invisible harmful waves is hard to dismiss in the age of man-made radioactive disaster — Fukushima, for example — and earlier this month, when Health Canada issued a warning that children under 18 should limit their cell phone use, concern grew.

There are signs the complaints are being taken seriously. Christel Martin, a retired 60-year-old in Nanaimo, B.C., says since the summer she’s been receiving several hundred dollars in CPP disability benefits for her wifi-related maladies.

Back in Ontario, Haralampopoulos is co-hosting an event Tuesday on the second floor of a Loblaws Real Canadian Superstore in Newmarket. She hopes to add urgency to her cause. “Pretty much these kids are guinea pigs,” she says, “we didn’t consent for our child to be in that environment.”

(NaturalNews) Depression in adolescents appears to be a serious and growing problem in this country, but is mental health screening the answer? Or does the appropriation of a label merely serve to drop a possibly troubled kid into psychiatry's default position of "let's fix this problem with a pill"?

Mental health screening of adolescents was conceived under the guise of a program, first launched during the Bush administration, called "TeenScreen." This program has now found itself a home in approximately 600 locations across the U.S., including school health classes, school-based health clinics and community agencies.

According to a recent report released by the CDC, 1 in 25 adolescents (aged 12 to 17) are now prescribed drugs for depression. There is every reason to suspect this number is increasing under TeenScreen, and that it will continue to rise.

Mental health screening's very foundation is deeply flawed

The goal of TeenScreen is to screen every school-aged child before graduation for "suicide" and "mental disorders" using a computer survey. Those considered "at risk" are then recommended for treatment. The label placed on your child is one that could stick with him or her for life regardless of its validity.

It should not surprise us to learn that the money line for funding of this ill-conceived program can be traced directly to the pharmaceutical drug industry. Members of the industry also assisted in the development of the questionnaire our young people are asked to fill out.

Based on the answers the child gives, he or she is then sent on to a "clinician" who considers which label to attach to the child, such as conduct disorder, avoidant personality disorder, mathematics disorder, reading disorder, disorder of written expression, nightmare disorder, general anxiety disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, factious disorder, as well as numerous other "disorders."

According to critics of this process, there can be an 84 to 94% chance the student will walk away being falsely labeled as "suicidal" or "mentally ill," something TeenScreen fails to disclose. However, because the real agenda simply appears to be more "pill pushing," a false positive carries not just a false label, but with it a prescription for a drug carrying a black box warning of increased risk of suicide!

No individual behind the development of TeenScreen has come forward with evidence to demonstrate that the "assessment" made of these students is even the least bit effective. Thus far, the statistics show one-third of the subjects being flagged as "positive" for having mental health problems; and 50% of those so flagged were recommended for mental health treatment. If this system, which already appears to be woefully inaccurate, is set loose on the more than 50 million public school students in the U.S., it would mean affixing a label to more than 17 million American children and putting 8 million-plus into the hands of the psychiatric/drug industry.

For decades we placed a great deal of emphasis on teaching our children to "just say no to drugs" only to turn around now and officially welcome the pharmaceutical drug industry back into their lives, giving full access to the kids and the frightening ability to assign false labels to millions of them. Parental rights, of course, remain ambiguous at best under TeenScreen guidelines; and with each decision that is removed from the parents' control, it is a decision we may never get back.

Abstract

Exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF) is ubiquitous for almost all individuals living in industrialized countries. Epidemiological and laboratory studies suggest that exposure to Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) EMF increase cancer risk. The immune system functions as one of the body's main protective mechanisms, and Natural Killer (NK) cells are a subset of lymphocytes that can destroy several types of tumor cells. In this study, we investigated, NK cell activity after exposure to a 50 Hertz (Hz), 2 mT magnetic field generated by a Helmholtz Coil. Nineteen male, 10-12 week old guinea pigs were used, and NK cytotoxic activity of splenocytes was measured in vitro by natural anticandidial colorimetric index. The Mann-Whitney U test was applied for statistical analysis. NK cell cytotoxic activity was decreased in exposed compared to controls. Our data suggests that part of the immune system, the NK cell, can be suppressed by a 50 Hz magnetic field.

AHMEDABAD: An environment and forests' ministry study has blamed 

electromagnetic radiation (EMR) from communication towers for the 

declining numbers of sparrows and bees. The study titled 'A possible 

impact of communication tower on wildlife birds and bees' said the 

radiation decreases egg production in the bees.

A 10-member expert panel headed by Bombay Natural History Society 

director Dr Asad Rahmani was asked to study the radiation impact after 

the issue was raised in the Lok Sabha in August last year. "We have 

suggested that EMR should be recognized as a pollutant given its effect 

on wildlife and should be audited regularly," said Wildlife Institute of 

India's Dr B C Choudhary, who was part of the panel.

The experts noted a Punjab University's study that said embryos of 50 

ggs of house sparrows were damaged after being exposed to mobile 

tower radiation for five to 30 minutes. Sparrows exposed to the 

radiation suffered from reproductive and co-ordination problems. 

They also became aggressive.

In the case of honey bees, the group observed that high radiation 

resulted in an unusual phenomenon known as 'colony collapse 

disorder' which is characterized by sudden disappearance of a hive's 

inhabitants, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature workers 

behind. The vanished bees were never found. Also, the navigational 

skills of the bees were affected by high-tension lines.

The panel also took note of a recent study that showed that the worker 

bees stopped coming to the hives after 10 days and egg production in 

queen bees dropped drastically to 100 eggs per day compared to 350 

eggs when a mobile phone with frequency of 900 MHz was kept for 

10 minutes in the beehives.
