Cell phone towers carry big risks
Who are the safety regulators for wireless technology? Even though the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is not a public health agency, it has acted to set uniform national radio frequency radiation exposure guidelines for human health in consultation with industry dominated standard selling groups, while ignoring significant comments made by key scientists in federal health agencies.
Our constitutional, civil and human rights have been taken away in section 704 of the Federal Communications Act of 1996, when government succumbed to industry pressure and facilitated the rollout of radiation-emitting antennas nationwide before conducting an adequate independent public health risk assessment. U.S. based telecommunications companies have netted over $1 trillion and have spent over $2.3 million in political lobbying as of 2009. These numbers are even higher now in 2014. According to Dr. Paul J. Rosch MD (professor of medicine and psychiatry, New York College), "Children are more severely affected because their brains are developing and their skulls are thinner. A two-minute call can alter brain function in a child for an hour, which is why other countries ban their sale (cellphones) or discourage their use under the age of 18."
In contrast, this is the segment of the population now being targeted here in a $2 billion U.S. advertising campaign that views "tweens" (children between 8 and 12 years old) as the next big cell phone market. Firefly and Barbie cell phones are also being promoted for 6-8 year olds.
The FCC maximum permissible exposure is 0.467 mw/cm2. Negative health effects have been found even at much lower levels (0.001 mw/cm2) according to current science.
Extremely low radio frequency radiation can cause alterations of the electrons in the cells of the body. These electrons control the messages within the cell, telling it what to do. Any interference with signaling will disrupt the normal processes of the cell, including metabolic processes. Interference with cell signaling has also been found to cause alterations in DNA, chromosomes, genomes and lymphocytes. See chapter six of the Bio Initiative Report. At the Oct. 17 school board meeting, I asked board members if I could see a show of hands for those who may have looked at the Bio Initiative Report, but I was not allowed to ask according to board member Fred Carleton. Why would this evidence not be allowed to be considered?
Some Bandon School Board members do not want to look at all the evidence now after they have already decided to upgrade the cellphone WiFi tower back in January 2014. While other nations, such as France, Germany, Russia, Israel, U.K., Canada, Liechtenstein and the European Parliament, have taken measures to reduce radio frequency exposures, Bandon School District allows AT&T upgrading of their system in the very close proximity of Ocean Crest Elementary School. www.BioInitiative.Org.
