Raj govt to conduct study on public health near mobile towers
The state's Medical and Health Department would conduct the research.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, a BJP MLA Ramlal Sharma said that mobile towers erected in colonies were emitting hazardous radiations leading to cancer not only in human beings but also in animals.
Not a single no objection certificate was obtained for a tower by a company, but it has installed a number of mobile towers in the particular area in the cities, Sharma claimed.
In their separate replies, the Rajasthan Urban Development and Housing (UDH) Minister Rajpal Singh Shekhawat and Health Minister R S Rathore assured the House that the public health check up and their study would be organised in the cities where people live within the 100 metres of a mobile tower.
UDH Minister Shekhawat said there was a cell under DOT at the Centre to fix the radiation limit of towers, and the tower companies should ensure the safety of people.
The limit of radiations as fixed by DOT for 2G mobile towers was 900 to 1800 MHz, for 3G mobile towers at 2100 MHz and for 4G 2300 MHz (megahertz), Shekhawat said.
It should be ensured that these limits were not violated by towers, and if there is any plaint, it would be taken up, the UDH minister said.
Health Minister Rathore said that as per the research by Jawhar Lal Nehru University scientists, people living in the 300 metres radius of mobile towers showed headache, skin, eye and cancer diseases.
Hence the study/research on public health would further strengthen the cause and effect of radiations, if any by towers, the Health Minister said.
