Electromagnetic Radiation

How safe is your cell phone? What happens when you hold it against your head? New published study ...

Wouldn't it be good news if the cool, convenient and increasingly essential digital technology was also safe and there was no indication of adverse health effects?

As you know, this wireless microwave (RF) radiation fills our homes, offices, schools, hospitals - and now our vehicles and aircraft. At what cost to our health? And in transportation, at what risk to our safety?

Yes, these are 'low' government-sanctioned levels, but have been shown to cause a series of adverse effects and increased health risks, including brain cancer. (More details at:

Joel Moscowitz, PhD, Director of the Center for Family and Community Health School of Public Health, University of California, Berkeley has been following this issue and reports:

Brain Cancer Risk Increases with the Amount of Wireless Phone Use: Study

New research indicates that brain cancer risk increases with more years of cell phone and cordless phone use and more hours of use. (Yes, digital cordless phones are included as the base constantly emits very high levels of RF radiation. This exposure, and/or your WiFi router, could be some of the reasons you aren't sleeping well.)

Professor Lennart Hardell, MD and his colleagues in Sweden just published the third in a series of papers on the use of wireless phones, including cell phones and cordless phones, and the risk of malignant and non-malignant brain tumors.

The latest paper describes a new case-control study that examines the association between mobile phone use and brain cancer risk. In these studies, the cases were diagnosed with brain tumors between 2007 and 2009.

Overall, the research found that people who used wireless phones for more than a year were at 70% greater risk of brain cancer as compared to those who used wireless phones for a year or less.

Those who used wireless phones for more than 25 years were at greatest risk—300% greater risk of brain cancer than those who used wireless phones for a year or less.

And there's more:

LTE Cell Phone Radiation Affects Brain Activity in Cell Phone Users

New peer-reviewed research finds that 30 minutes' exposure to LTE cellphone radiation increases brain activity on both sides of the brain.

The first study on the short-term effects of Long Term Evolution (LTE), the fourth generation cell phone technology, has been published online in the peer-reviewed journal, Clinical Neurophysiology. (1)

In 2011, Dr. Nora Volkow, Director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, published a similar study in the Journal of the American Medical Association that received worldwide news coverage. Dr. Volkow reported that a 50 minute exposure to GSM, a second generation cell phone technology, increased brain activity in the region of the brain closest to the cell phone.

If you take a moment to consider the global public health impact, does it make you want to ignore the whole thing? To seek refuge in the 'there's no evidence of harm' position?

Or take pro-active steps to reduce risks - to learn to use digital technology more safely?
