International Appeal: Scientists call for Protection from Non-Ionizing Electromagnetic Field Exposure

Two hundred and seven International scientists including EMF researchers, university professors, and medical doctors from 40 countries have signed an appeal which calls upon the United Nations (UN), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the UN Member States to address the emerging public health crisis related to cellphones, wireless devices, wireless utility meters, and wireless infrastructure in neighbourhoods. They also urge the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) to initiate an assessment of alternatives to current exposure standards and practices that could substantially lower human exposures to non-ionizing radiation.

Partial Abstract

Background: In 1970, a report from the former Soviet Union described the “microwave syndrome” among military personnel, working with radio and radar equipment, who showed symptoms that included fatigue, dizziness, headaches, problems with concentration and memory, and sleep disturbances. Similar symptoms were found in the 1980s among Swedes working in front of cathode ray tube monitors, with symptoms such as flushing, burning, and tingling of the skin, especially on the face, but also headaches, dizziness, tiredness, and photosensitivity. The same symptoms are reported in Finns, with electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) being attributed to exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF). Of special concern is involuntary exposure to radiofrequency (RF)-EMF from different sources. Most people are unaware of this type of exposure, which has no smell, color, or visibility. There is an increasing concern that wireless use of laptops and iPads in Swedish schools, where some have even abandoned textbooks, will exacerbate the exposure to EMF.

Your readers should be aware of the research reported by Professor Martin L. Pall formerly of Washington State University? He has demonstrated that without temperature change, through the Voltage Gate Calcium Channel (VGCC) it is possible for electrical energy to alter the intracellular calcium levels with potentially devastating health effects. 

In particular this occurs across the plasma membrane and demonstrates clearly that electrical effects can and do activate Ca2+ meaning that chemical effects result directly from electrical stimulus. Ca2+ levels within cells apparently play a critical role in human health, plants too it seems (same mechanism although 2 instead of the 4 that humans have).

Professor Pall noted that it has been known and accepted for more than 40 years that Pulsed Fields are more Bio-Active than non-pulsed and his study showed that pulsed electrical energy does affect cells in non-thermal conditions. So much for the fraudulent claims of regulators and the industry. 

ALL our WiFi, Cellphones, Cordless DECT telephones, Radio Baby monitors, Smart Meters and the like have a very real potential to do massive and possibly irreversible harm to biological entities such as humans.

California Assembly Bill 57 would give wireless communications companies near carte blanche authority to install new cell phone antennas  — without public notice or chance for appeal — passed the CA Senate Aug. 31 and is currently awaiting Gov. Jerry Brown’s signature. The Telecom industry heavily lobbied state legislators to vote for this bill which was heavily opposed by several cities.  It removes much of a city or local government’s regulatory authority over such installations.

Schools and businesses beware. Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity Syndrome (EHS) may be hurting your students, employees and customers. While Science has not yet proven a causal link between EHS and the symptoms of its growing numbers of sufferers, lawsuits are being filed here in the US and abroad.

A woman in France has been awarded about $32,000 in compensation for pain and suffering brought about by an allergy to WiFi. She claimed that she was forced to relocate to the countryside because digital wireless transmissions caused her severe discomfort. Her award will be paid out over the next three years.

Recently, the parents of a 12 year old boy in Southboro Massachusetts have filed a lawsuit claiming that the schools WiFi signal is causing their son to become ill and lose focus and concentration in school.

The complaint alleges that the boy was diagnosed with EHS after experiencing headaches, nausea and nosebleeds after the Fay School installed new, stronger wireless internet equipment in 2013. The lawsuit seeks accommodations and $250,000 in damages.

The World Health Organization acknowledges that EHS is a collection of symptoms, but clarifies it is not a medical diagnosis, and the symptoms may not be caused by a single medical problem.

A number of EHS sufferers have relocated to Green Bank, West Virginia in the Appalachian foothills. Green Bank is within the 13,000 square mile radio free zone in the US. Virtually all wireless devices are against federal law in that zone.

Is the beginning of a trend of EHS lawsuits? Should schools and businesses pay closer attention to the wireless waves being showered on anyone nearby? Will EHS become an ADA issue/category? It is just too soon to tell, but we will keep you informed.

ASTANA – One domestic factory is sewing clothing for school pupils that manufacturers believe protects wearers from the electromagnetic radiation of mobile phones, Khabar.kz reported Aug. 17. The approximate price for the new uniform is 15,000 tenge (US$62).

“Kids nowadays are very tech savvy and spend too much time with their phones,” Aigul Naushabayeva, mother of a 12-year-old daughter, told The Astana Times.

She thinks this type of uniform will definitely be in demand for parents who want their children to be protected from the harmful effects of mobile phones. “Children should wear such uniforms as health is priceless,” she added.

A collection of “Smart” uniforms is made for girls and boys. It looks like an ordinary formal suit with a variety of styles offered, but the secret cannot be understood at first glance, the agency reported.

“A compound of X-shield fabric that is sewn into inner pockets uses copper that provides protection against mobile phone radiation. We were holding tests with special appliances in a laboratory and found that when a phone is in that pocket, radiation is 80 to 90 percent less harmful,” administrator of chain stores in Astana, Dilyaram Tursinova told Khabar news agency.

The electromagnetic radiation protective uniforms are sewed at a factory in the Almaty region, but can be purchased in Astana, Karaganda and Moscow. Fifty-thousand sets of the uniform were made this year and up to 70,000 are planned for production next year, Khabar reported.

Children are particularly sensitive to electromagnetic radiation, vredpolza.ru reported, referring to scientists saying that the frequent use of mobile phones can put children at an increased risk of memory and sleep disorders.

The radiation can affect brain rhythms and cause harm to the immune system of a child. Effects of harmful electromagnetic radiation are like disturbances on a radio and lead to destabilisation of body cells, disorders of the nervous system, emergence of headaches and memory loss, the website stated.
