DENVER – We're learning more about a plan to put 5G cell towers on Denver Public Schools.

It’s a proposed idea that has outraged some parents who say these towers could put the health of kids at risk.

"My feeling is that they should not, at a minimum, go on top of public schools,” said Batya Stepelman, a parent of children at Teller Elementary. “Period."

While towers have existed for years on top of schools like Barnum Elementary and Denver School of the Arts, an agreement between DPS and telecom giants like Verizon and T-Mobile would expand the number of towers.

"There are no FCC studies about the impacts from radiation," Stepelman said.

At this time, the American Cancer Society's position is that radiofrequency waves from cell towers are not enough to break chemical bonds in DNA molecules which lead to cancer, unlike X-rays and ultra-violet rays.

Roughly 30 schools are slated for new tower installation or modifications to existing towers.

5G is fifth generation cell technology that provides lightning quick wireless, among other things.

The agreements to place towers on schools can pay cash-strapped districts like Denver thousands.

"Getting funding for supplies and teachers and schools, I absolutely appreciate that they’re looking for other means to make any type of extra funding," Barnum parent Michelle Perez said.

But it’s the inconclusive research on the health risks of cell towers that have parents, the district and other parents at odds.

"They made assurances of safety,” Stepelman said. “They said that these towers have been researched."

"I don't think it's putting kids at risk if you don't have the data to prove it," said LeRoy Espenosa, whose niece attends Barnum Elementary.

CELL TOWER MIASMA PERVADES NATIONAL PARK SYSTEM 
Audit Finds Broad Noncompliance with Eco-Rules and Revenue Collection

Washington, DC — The National Park Service does not even know how many cell towers it has, improperly issues approvals for building towers, and fails to collect money owed by telecoms, according to a new audit prompted by a complaint from Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER).  While the NPS promises to fix these problems, PEER charges that these lapses are multiplying rather than abating.

The Interior Department Office of Inspector General (IG) audit entitled “The NPS Needs To Improve Management of its Commercial Right-of-Way Program” was conducted following an October 2017 PEER complaint concerning illegal cell tower approvals in Yosemite National Park. The audit confirmed those problems and determined they were systemwide, including –

• Widespread noncompliance with NPS rules requiring reviews of potential adverse impacts on environmental and cultural resources;
• Failure to even bill for, let alone collect, revenue owed to NPS by telecoms; and
• Lack of oversight to the extent that parks cannot accurately report what they have permitted and nationally the NPS does not inventory what cell facilities have been built.

The root problem is a Park Service embrace of cellular coverage without any critical analysis, outsourcing its resource protection role to the telecom industry,” stated PEER Executive Director Tim Whitehouse, pointing out that these private companies are permitted to use park land and resources to benefit their commercial subscribers. “In short, the IG found that the Park Service is illegally subsidizing the telecom industry to the detriment of the parks.”

One common failing the IG confirmed was parks approving cell tower construction with the type of permit issued for special events, like a wedding or film shoot. Instead, they are supposed to issue a right-of-way permit with annual fees based upon market value. Without even determining market value, the amount of revenue the deficit-ridden park system forfeits cannot be calculated.

In addition, parks allow the company that built the tower to collect rental from competing telecoms collocating their equipment on the tower without forwarding a dime to the park.

“The problems that PEER found at Yosemite are being repeated today at other parks, such as Grand Teton and Yellowstone,” added Pacific PEER Director Jeff Ruch, noting that NPS agreed to implement all the IG reform recommendations but without any indication of remedial action. “Until the Park Service shows that it will hold its managers to account for violating the law and agency rules, we can expect these violations to continue.”

Who Should You Believe About Health Risks from Cell Towers: Firefighters, Insurance Companies, Telecoms, Kevin Costner?

Since 2004, the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has opposed the use of their stations for cell towers and antennas due to health risks to personnel.  Their website includes many pages of research including a study done on firefighters themselves.

Since at least 2014, telecom companies have been warning investors that eventually they may be held liable and have to pay large settlements because of harm caused by their products and transmitters (aka cell towers).  This being the case, it’s not surprising that insurance companies have chosen NOT to cover telecom companies (see 1, 2) for many years.

None of this, however, has stopped telecom companies from trying to convince the public that they have nothing to worry about.  Recently, they have taken this to a whole new level of absurdity regarding hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of 4G and 5G small cell towers being installed throughout the U.S. in front of homes, schools and everywhere else.It defies logic.  In February telecom executives gave congressional testimonythat they could provide NO scientific studies that prove 5G is safe (not harmful).  

Regardless, CTIA (the U.S. trade association representing the wireless communications industry) recently posted a website to combat fears to the growing American opposition to the countless small cell towers being installed throughout the U.S for the “Race for 5G”.

Like the New York Times and Federal Communications Commission (FCC)employees, CTIA blames Russia for causing American anxiety about health risks from 5G and cell tower exposure.  They also cite the FDA as a qualified health expert despite the many times this agency has been accused of contributing – if not causing – huge public health snafus including the gargantuan Opioid Crisis.

An op-ed posted by Wireless Estimator provides more details about the new CTIA website and that actor/businessman Kevin Costner is now promoting 5G.  Apparently, CTIA doesn’t care that not long after releasing award-winning and sympathetic Native American film, Dances with Wolves, Kevin fought to build a massive resort casino on sacred Native American land.  However, this may add insult to injury to the American tribal groups who filed lawsuits regarding forced 5G small cell installation on their land last year.  Stay classy, Kevin.

Regarding the Wireless Estimator – in April they posted an article making fun of parents fighting cell towers on school properties despite research and warnings from credible sources including the American Academy of Pediatrics that exposure is more harmful to kids than adults.

Despite all of this, some Americans still have NO IDEA that this installation may be happening RIGHT NOW in their communities – if it hasn’t happened already.

Don’t rubberstamp Verizon wireless antenna proposal

Last week’s hearing at the San Francisco Board of Appeals was reminiscent of the mythical battle between David and Goliath. Residents who live at the corner of Belvedere and Grattan streets in Cole Valley presented evidence and arguments to the Board in hopes members would overturn The City’s approval of a Verizon wireless antenna outside their homes.

Instead, they’ll have to wait a month before knowing whether they toppled the telecom giant. The City asked for more time to review information again.

“I was disappointed that the Planning Department requested a continuance,” Eliza Nemser, who lives on the block with her family, told me. “It’s concerning that it had to recheck the facts.

One has to wonder if the Department of Public Works is experiencing undue pressure to approve these wireless facilities that compromise the character of our communities and may pose a public health risk.”

As of 2018, San Francisco had received over 1,200 applications for permits and denied only eight. There could be multiple reasons for the high approval rates.

One is likely a belief among officials that The City lacks authority to control deployment of wireless equipment. Federal law forbids local review beyond determining that the Federal Communications Commission public safety guidelines from 1996 have been met. Although these guidelines predate development of 4G technology and fail to protect people, plants and pets from radio frequency radiation from wireless facilities, City officials comply with the FCC’s order anyway.

But The City’s low number of denials may also indicate that it’s failing to address the impacts it can reduce. A recent decision by the California Supreme Court granted officials authority to deny permits for new wireless facilities based on their aesthetic impacts. If The City isn’t properly reviewing these impacts, as the Planning Department alluded during the hearing last week, San Francisco could be stuck with inappropriate and dangerous wireless facilities for decades.

The proposed antenna on Belvedere and Grattan streets was initially denied by the Planning Department because it was “not appropriately sited.” Specifically, The City found that the facility would be too tall, increase the distracting and cluttering aspects of the existing utility pole, and detract from the defining characteristics of the neighborhood.
Then, without explanation, the Department approved the same permit it denied.

“If it’s 40 feet and disapproved and 40 feet and approved there’s kind of an issue there, isn’t there?” Commissioner Darryl Honda asked a representative from the Planning Department at the hearing last week.

Board president Rick Swig later stated, “I have nightmares about this stuff, believe it or not, because I care so much. I wonder whether there is a tendency to rubberstamp.”

The Board of Appeals seemed to recognize the antenna would detract from the surrounding area in violation of City law. But Commissioners ultimately voted to delay their decision to give the Planning Department time to recheck the application. The move was frustrating to say the least.

Since the 1980s, residents in the area have worked to beautify the neighborhood by undergrounding utility wires and funding the installation of specialty street lights. While The City has discretion to protect these beautification efforts, it failed to properly review the wireless facility’s aesthetic impacts and rubberstamped a permit it had previously denied. If neighborhood residents weren’t so vigilant, there would now be a huge wireless antenna towering over the buildings and trees on Grattan Street.

This lack of proper review doesn’t only effect the beauty of The City though. San Francisco recognizes the potential impacts associated with radiofrequency radiation and has attempted to regulate in the past. But by approving improper permits, The City is also exposing people and the environment to potentially significant health and safety risks.

Wireless companies are incredibly powerful. It’s difficult for residents, like Nemser and her neighbors, to fight them and their team of lawyers. Residents shouldn’t also have to fight The City. Instead of handing Goliath a shield in the form of a rubberstamped approval, officials should properly review and deny permits that fail to protect San Francisco and San Franciscans.

Safety Code 6 is a Crime Against Humanity - Cell Phone Towers are Dangerous!

The four Directors who opposed – and successfully blocked - the proposed 61 meter cell phone tower for the tiny village of Coombs are to be genuinely thanked for their courageous actions in making the only correct decision! Informed people around the world know that there is no such thing as a “safe” cell phone tower! All cell phone towers, like all FM radio and TV towers, emit pulsed, non-thermal microwave radiation, which non-industry scientists know CAUSES CANCERS and many other serious illnesses! 

There is no substitute for knowledge! All RDN Directors are obliged to know that increasingly more people are getting diseases and too often die from the electromagnetic fields (EMFs) which are produced by power line (50 Hz/60 Hz) electricity (overhead power lines, substations, power transformers, etc.) as well as by all radio frequency wireless devices, such as cell phone towers, smart meters, cell phones, baby monitors, etc.! Without this knowledge, no Director can do his/her job - make informed decisions on EMF issues that will protect the public!

·       In 1979, the infamous scientist, Dr. Michael Repacholi, set Health Canada’s initial Safety Code 6 ‘guidelines’ for RF EMFs, which proved to be similar to those of the US Navy: 10 mW/cm² as the ‘safe’ Exposure Limit and recognized ONLY the thermal effects of RF EMFs! This explains why the EMFs emitted by any civilian telecommunications product (including cell phone towers, Wi-Fi routers, cell phones, ‘smart’ meters, etc) easily ‘COMPLIES’ with Safety Code 6!

·       April 28, 2010 – This was the beginning of the end of democracy in British Columbia! The Government of BC passed its ‘Clean Energy Act’ (Bill 17), which paved the way for the mandatory installation of  wireless ‘smart’ meters on every home and occupied building in the province! The public were never told that inside every ‘smart’ meter are two (2) microwave radio circuits, both of which emit hazardous pulsed non-thermal radiation throughout the day and night, in perpetuity! The more powerful of the two transmitters emits its radiation on 910 MHz for distances of up to 3 km - in all directions! The public are not told that every smart meter in a ‘meshed-grid community’ radiates every home in a community (within a 3 km radius) and, in turn, is irradiated by every other home’s smart meter! 

·       May 31, 2011 - The WHO’s “IARC” (International Agency for Research on Cancer) classified RF EMF a Class 2B “Possible” Carcinogen! ·       Despite the WHO’s classification of EMFs as a “Possible Carcinogen”:  

Ø  Neither Health Canada, nor any provincial government, nor any PHO (Provincial Health Officer) intervened or even attempted to stop electric utilities from installing their hazardous wireless ‘smart’ meters (whose two microwave radio circuits spew  pulsed non-thermal EMFs – in all directions - day and night)!  

Ø  Nor did any provincial government, nor any PHO - in Canada - speak up and urge Health Canada or provincial governments to invoke the “Precautionary Principle” in order to protect the public … or urge government to put the onus on industry to prove their technologies are safe, to be used by, on and around people – of all ages, of all sizes, of all levels of wellness on a 24/7/365 day basis in perpetuity!  

·       Although British Columbia’s two PHOs may well have been outstanding family medical practitioners, neither the current PHO, Dr. Bonnie Henry, MD, or her predecessor, Dr. Perry Kendall, MD (who retired in 2018), has/had any credible expertise in power line frequency (50 Hz/60 Hz)  non-thermal EMFs, pulsed non-thermal RF EMFs or in electro-hypersensitivity “EHS”! ·       June 30, 2011 – This marked the end of democracy in BC. The same provincial government that mandated ‘smart’ meters in the province, on this date signed a 10-year, $100-million/year contract with Telus Corp. authorizing the latter to update all government telecommunications facilities in BC. The contract specifically identified all six Regional Health Authorities in addition to other provincial entities! With a corrupt Health Canada and woefully ignorant BC PHO’s (of EMFs and EHS), Telus (like all telecom companies across Canada) enjoyed free reign to install wireless technology wherever they wanted – even in cancer clinics, hospitals, medical clinics, nursing homes, schools, public buildings, provincial transit systems (e.g., BC Ferries) etc.! ·       The BioInitiative 2012 Report (29 authors, including 21 PhDs and 10 medical experts, from 10 different countries) concluded, in part, that:

Ø  with respect to cell phone towers, the Report stated that “at least five new cell tower studies are reporting bioeffects (i.e., non-thermal effects) in the range of 0.003 to 0.05 μW/cm2 …” This is almost a million timesweaker than the permissible 1000 µW/cm² ‘safe’ Exposure Limit allowed by Safety Code 6, the US Military, IEEE/ICES and FCC, and thousands of times weaker than ICNIRP’s and the WHO’s 800 µW/cm² guideline! 

·       Contrary to what Health Canada states on its website, Safety Code 6 protects only against the thermal effects of RF EMFs! In conclusion, all people need to be aware that, thanks to the US M-I-C, the electric power generation and telecommunications industries have captured and/or control many Western governments, at all levels, to the extent that scientists say that mankind is threatened today as never before in our history. Because the US’ major allies adopted the US Navy’s outrageously-high ‘safe’ Exposure Limit for RF EMFs, the electric power generation and telecommunications industries easily comply with the globally-vilified Safety Code 6, ICNIRP, WHO, IEEE/ICES and FCC Standards/guidelines! While there is still time, the public must educate themselves about man-made EMFs and pulsed EMFs! Scientists know that there is no such thing as a ‘safe’ cell phone tower … or any other wireless product that emits non-thermal EMFs! Some level of government – somewhere - must eventually stand up and demand that this unbelievable corruption and crime against humanity STOP! Communities must re-claim from national government agencies the responsibility for, and sole authority to, regulate and control all man-made activities within their jurisdiction having the potential to harm the public’s safety or health! The perpetrators of this inconceivably cruel crime should be tried and, those found guilty, sent to prison!
