Wi-Fi in HWDSB Schools

Wi-Fi in HWDSB Schools

Wi-Fi in HWDSB SchoolsAt Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB), we are rethinking the way we offer programs and facilities so that we can meet the needs of each of our students in the 21st century. We know today’s learners require new approaches, as we strive to prepare students for an ever-changing future.
This work affects how teachers teach, how students learn, how we connect with our community and so much more. It includes using appropriate learning tools and technologies.

In order to provide these learning opportunities to students within HWDSB, we are implementing wireless technology (Wi-Fi) in all our schools. We believe wireless technology will have a positive impact on:
  • Student achievement
  • Student engagement
  • Research skills
HWDSB understands and is sensitive to the safety concerns some may have regarding the use of Wi-Fi in schools. The use of wireless technology in our schools strictly adheres to current Health Canada standards and regulations. As a public institution, we rely on the expertise and advice from our public health authorities at Health Canada and the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. Both levels of government are of the opinion that Wi-Fi is not dangerous to human health.
We will continue to rely and follow the standards set by these organizations as accepted parameters for use of Wi-Fi technology in our schools. Should the standards set by the government bodies change, HWDSB will review our use of this technology and respond appropriately.
Providing safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environments for all staff and students is one of HWDSB’s priorities. To learn more about Wi-Fi technology, please visit Frequently Asked Questions About Wi-Fi.
