Household Radar Can See Through Walls and Knows How You’re Feeling

Modern wireless tech isn’t just for communications. It can also sense a person’s breathing and heart rate, even gauge emotions

When I was a boy,I secretly hoped I would discover latent within me some amazing superpower—say, X-ray vision or the ability to read people’s minds. Lots of kids have such dreams. But even my fertile young brain couldn’t imagine that one day I would help transform such superpowers into reality. Nor could I conceive of the possibility that I would demonstrate these abilities to the president of the United States. And yet two decades later, that’s exactly what happened.

There was, of course, no magic or science fiction involved, just new algorithms and clever engineering, using wireless technology that senses the reflections of radio waves emanating from a nearby transmitter. The approach my MIT colleagues and I are pursuing relies on inexpensive equipment that is easy to install—no more difficult than setting up a Wi-Fi router.

These results are now being applied in the real world, helping medical researchers and clinicians to better gauge the progression of diseases that affect gait and mobility. And devices based on this technology will soon become commercially available. In the future, they could be used for monitoring elderly people at home, sending an alert if someone has fallen. Unlike users of today’s medical alert systems, the people being monitored won’t have to wear a radio-equipped bracelet or pendant. The technology could also be used to monitor the breathing and heartbeat of newborns, without having to put sensors in contact with the infants’ fragile skin.

You’re probably wondering how this radio-based sensing technology works. If so, read on, and I will explain by telling the story of how we managed to push our system to increasing levels of sensitivity and sophistication.

It all started in 2012,shortly after I became a graduate student at MIT. My faculty advisor, Dina Katabi, and I were working on a way to allow Wi-Fi networks to carry data faster. We mounted a Wi-Fi device on a mobile robot and let the robot navigate itself to the spot in the room where data throughput was highest. Every once in a while, our throughput numbers would mysteriously plummet. Eventually we realized that when someone was walking in the adjacent hallway, the person’s presence disrupted the wireless signals in our room.

We should have seen this coming. Wireless communication systems are notoriously vulnerable to electromagnetic noise and interference, which engineers work hard to combat. But seeing these effects firsthand got us thinking along completely different lines about our research. We wondered whether this “noise,” caused by passersby, could serve as a new source of information about the nearby environment. Could we take a Wi-Fi device, point it at a wall, and see on a computer screen how someone behind the wall was moving?

That should be possible, we figured. After all, walls don’t block wireless signals. You can get a Wi-Fi connection even when the router is in another room. And if there’s a person on the other side of a wall, the wireless signal you send out on this side will reflect off his or her body. Naturally, after the signal traverses the wall, gets reflected back, and crosses through the wall again, it will be very attenuated. But if we could somehow register these minute reflections, we would, in some sense, be able to see through the wall.

Using radio waves to detect what’s on the other side of a wall has been done before, but with sophisticated radar equipment and expensive antenna arrays. We wanted to use equipment not much different from the kind you’d use to create a Wi-Fi local area network in your home.

WHO Estimates High Levels of EMFs in 1st World Countries Could Lead to Health Issues in 30% of Population. New Watch Made To Fight Harmful Effects.

By B.N. Frank

In 2002, the U.S. Access Board recognized Electromagnetic Sensitivity as disabling.  In fact, “Microwave Sickness”and Electromagnetic Sensitivity are medical conditions that have been recognized worldwide for decades.

Decades of research from a variety of credible sources has already determined that exposure to all sources of “Electrosmog”– including cell phone and WiFi radiation– is harmful.  Exposure affects animals too.  Many doctors and scientists have petitioned governments worldwide to raise awareness about biological and environmental harm caused by sources of Electrosmog and to also reduce it.  Since 2017, 240+ doctors and scientists have signed a petition demanding a moratorium on 5G wireless installation (see 12,3,4).  Communities have asked for moratoriums on 5G as well.
For those who can afford it, a new product is being offered to help reduce the harmful effects of exposure.

From Forbes:
In today’s world where magnetic fields surround us in our every day life — from cell phones and covers, to microwaves and even the upcoming 5G — the World Health Organization estimates that approximately 30% of the population (in first-world countries) is exposed to high levels of electromagnetic frequencies (EMF) and succumb to the effects of Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity. Those effects include lack of sleep, anxiety, stress, dizziness and hormonal imbalances, among other things. Now, Teslar (R) Swiss Made, in association with  Timex Group Luxury Division, Vertime B.V., unveils the watch that it says is “not a watch” because it has added benefits that may help people ward off these negative effects.
[…]
The watches house an ELF Nanotech Chip that is made in America with Quantum Technology and works in sync with the Swiss-made quartz movement and battery  to create a natural signal associated with calmness.  In technical terms, “the technology utilizes the electric field in the watch’s battery and the magnetic field of the coil to create a zero-point waveform with a scalar pulse of 7 to 9 times per second (7-9Hz).” This frequency, which is said to be the Earth’s natural frequency, then pumps through the body’s energy system with regular wear of the watch.
Of course, many doctors and vets still don’t consider Electrosmog when diagnosingand treating patients.

Regardless, exposure is cumulative.  So it’s possible to not always be “sensitive” or symptomatic to it but eventually become sensitive and symptomatic to it.  So this watch probably isn’t going to protect you or your loved ones 100% from 5G or any other sources of Electrosmog.

EMF-proofing your homeand never leaving is another option.  Or you could wear head-to-toe EMF reducing clothing24/7.  It’s not necessarily going to be attractive or comfortable but it can help.

Long Island - PSEG hits the road to educate customers on smart meters, rates

PSEG Long Island this month kicks off a traveling trailer initiative aimed at educating customers about efficiency programs, rates, safety and electricity, while addressing concerns about a new generation of smart meters blanketing the region.

Called My Smart Energy Lab, the $500,000-plus trailer, powered by 21 solar panels feeding six 48-volt batteries, uses interactive displays and large-screen TV programs to engage customers about subjects from the productivity of a kilowatt hour to the radio frequency emitted by the new smart meters.

PSEG has received the green light to install smart meters across the LIPA service territory over the next four years. The meters collect usage data all day and transmit it wirelessly to PSEG, eliminating the need for meter readers and estimated bills. Already, more than 230,000 customers have the meters, and all are scheduled to have them (except for those who opt out) by 2022.

Rick Walden, PSEG Long Island vice president of customer services, on Monday in the new My Smart Energy Lab interactive trailer, which will travel around the region to address concerns about a new generation of smart meters. Photo Credit: Newsday / Mark Harrington

Barbara Klein, program manager for customer engagement, who came up with the trailer concept, said she personally called all of the first 400 or so customers who opted out of smart meters since PSEG and LIPA began installing them. Today, the number of those opting out is around 1,300. She said she's convinced most of the people she called that there are no privacy or accuracy issues, but some remain concerned about radio frequency radiation.

The meters transmit signals considerably less powerful than cellphones or even baby monitors, and smart meters only send their signals in millisecond bursts four times a day, she said. The meters are usually mounted outside homes and direct their signals away from homes.

Customers who opt out pay a $10 monthly meter reading charge to handle administrative costs, even if they call in their meter readings, PSEG said.

The trailer's educational aim goes well beyond smart meters. Customers can crank a handle to generate electricity that travels through power lines to a light bulb in a home. Displays show customers which utility pole lines are for electric, TV and phone, and lighted displays tell them which parts of the equipment are their responsibility or PSEG's.

"It's a fun way to explain who we are and what we do," Klein said.

A video station shows customers the relatively lower frequency emissions coming from smart meters while debunking privacy and accuracy "myths."

The trailer will have a regular schedule of events each month (customers or groups can request it) and it will make regular appearances at big-box home improvement stores to get the word out, said Rick Walden, vice president of customer services.

"There's a lot of misinformation out there," Walden said. "We think it will be a useful customer tool."

Controlling 5G: A Course in Obstacles

Across the United States, telecom providers have begun mapping their plans to deploy 5G “small,” microwave-emitting cellular sites throughout neighborhoods. Every person deserves to be informed about what’s happening and what’s within every household’s ability to control.
Already the largest thing that humanity has built, we double the Internet’s size every two years. The Internet of Things (IoT), also known as machine-to-machine communication, generates data traffic via the “smart” power grid, billions of mobile phone and Internet users who expect 24/7 access, GPS networks and self-driving cars, toilets that analyze stools and blood pressure and send the data to physicians, and refrigerators that can message phones that orange juice needs replenishing.
Because most people consider mobile technologies a basic necessity for school, work and household functioning, arguing against their expansion is especially challenging – even when they threaten our democracy, security, privacy, health and climate.  Indeed, exponential increases in data traffic have the telecom industry launching 5G, the fifth generation of wireless infrastructure, internationally.
In the U.S., more than 25 states and several federal Acts now mandate “streamlining” (easing deployment) of 5G infrastructure.  Let me unpack what this means for municipalities and households.
Fiber optics’ role in telecommunications
Until 2016, businesses and households considered “fiber optics-to-the premises” the safest, fastest, most energy-efficient and secure way to access the Internet. Encased in thick conduit, pulsing light on thin strands of glass fibers, fiber optic cables carry multiple frequencies for telecommunications. Effectively, fiber cables offer unlimited bandwidth.[1] They do not emit radiofrequency radiation (RFR). They tend to withstand extreme weather events better than wireless systems.
For years, wireless telecom providers have run fiber optic cables from their core network to the large towers that support cellular antennas. Then, the system’s “last hop” (from the cell tower to individual, mobile devices) is delivered wirelessly. In other words, wireless telecom infrastructure is not entirely wireless.
To deliver data, voice or the Internet wirelessly (say at 4G), the data in fiber optics’ light waves are converted (via a digital, electronic process) to radiofrequency (RF) waves.  5G combines fiber optics and millimeter RF waves. This combination offers the only way to create more usable frequencies for our increasing wireless data traffic: 5G (which provides wireless access) cannot operate without fiber optics.
Like a radio station that pays the FCC a licensing fee for a frequency band on the electromagnetic spectrum, a telecom corporation pays the FCC to lease frequencies that deliver its wireless services (i.e. voice, Internet and data). In the last few decades, the spectrum has nearly filled up. (In the iPhone’s first three and a half years, AT&T alone claimed that their data traffic grew 80-fold.[2])
Because services that include a wireless component are minimally taxed and regulated (compared to wired services), wireless services are much more profitable to telecom corporations.
Streamlining 5G infrastructure via legislation
Beginning in 2016, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), a Koch brothers-backed group that advocates for industry interests, wrote sample legislation to “streamline” the buildout of 5G. These bills promote installing fiber optic cables to densely deployed “small” cell sites on public right-of-ways (e.g. utility poles and school rooftops) and federal and state land. They severely restrict local zoning review requirements for installing telecom facilities, including distributed antenna systems (DAS). (DAS can provide coverage on campuses, inside large office buildings or in places with large crowds that expect wireless services.)
By January 2019, over half of U.S. states had passed ALEC-inspired legislation to streamline 5G’s buildout.[3] Our federal 2017-2018 Mobile Now Act and the Digit Act also restrict local authority over installation of telecom infrastructure. Further, the FCC has enacted rules that restrict states’ and municipalities’ ability to use the 1970 National Environmental Policy Review Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act in zoning and siting reviews for telecom facilities. The FCC also shortened the time that municipalities must respond to telecom permit applications from 90 to 60 days.
Further, these mandates prohibit municipalities from enacting a moratorium on 5G/small cell site infrastructure. They severely restrict the amount of money that a municipality can charge telecom providers for accessing publicly-owned right-of-ways. They effectively remove zoning requirements like neighborhood notification and public hearings regarding installation of telecom facilities.[4]
Opposition to streamlining 5G infrastructure
A national coalition of nearly 100 municipalities is suing the FCC, arguing that the FCC lacks the statutory authority to issue such regulations.[5] California Congresswomen Anna Eshoo and Jackie Speier have introduced House Resolution 530, the Acclerating Wireless Broadband Development by Empowering Local Communities Act of 2019. This legislation would overturn FCC regulations that limit the ability of local governments to regulate the deployment of 5G wireless infrastructure. HR 530 provides “that certain actions by the Federal Communications Commission shall have no force or effect.”[6]
HR 530 might offer our best chance of voiding the FCC’s new rules, including its prohibiting municipalities from mandating moratoria on 5G. As of April 25, 2019, the bill had 46 co-sponsors.[7]
On February 9, 2019, Sierra Club California adopted a resolution urging the National Conservation Policy Committee “to adopt an oppose position to the FCC’s recent promulgation of a rule that waives environmental review, and limits local control, of the deployment of 5G wireless technology and small cell box installations.”[8]
Questions about cell sites’ compliance with FCC safety standards
Some communities have begun posting providers’ plans to deploy “small” cell sites throughout their neighborhoods. Before telecoms deploy these installations, concerned citizens might ask elected officials some of the following questions:
* Assuming that “small” cell sites must comply with FCC radiofrequency safety standards, how will people who live, study and/or work near these cell sites be notified about them?
* Assuming that the FCC requires every cell site to have a sign instructing people to stay at least nine feet from the antennas, if the site is on a backyard utility pole, do you prevent children from playing in the yard? If the utility pole is on a sidewalk, how do walkers and mail carriers keep nine feet from it? If the second-story bedroom or classroom of a pregnant woman, child or person with a medical implant is within nine feet of the “small” cell site, what options do they have?
* Assuming that FCC regulations require antennas to be turned off whenever workers perform work on them, how will electricians, rooftop workers or tree pruners learn about the antennas? Who do they contact to shut them off?
* Assuming that the FCC requires telecom service providers to re-measure RF emissions if/when they change the antennas’ RF transmissions, who will hire the engineers to conduct these measurements? To whom will engineers report their evaluations? Will reports be posted on municipal websites?
Before acting, know your terms
Communities seeking safer, more secure, more reliable “fiber-to-the- premises” (FTTP) should be aware that the industry may use this term when they actually will only deliver “fiber-to-the-curb” (FTTC), “fiber-to-the-antenna” (FTTA) or “fiber-to-the-wireless” (FTTW). Telecom providers may also use the term “fixed wireless Internet” to describe connecting fiber to “small” cell sites.
For safer, more secure and more reliable telecommunications, we need wired infrastructure (fiber or copper) delivered to a wired connection in each premises. Consider wired services primary. Consider mobile services supplemental luxuries. To move toward these ends, we need to repeal federal Acts that effectively eliminate local authority over telecom facilities.
Before acting, know your laws
Unashamedly, FCC regulations do not safeguard the public or our environment. A Harvard report calls the FCC a “captured agency.”[9]
Section 704 of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 prohibits municipalities from denying a corporation a permit to install telecom infrastructure (transmitting antennas) based on health or environmental concerns.
Because of recently passed federal Acts, FCC Orders and state laws (which prohibit restrictions on fiber delivered to public right-of-ways and promote wireless service from public right-of-ways to individual users), advocating for municipally-owned fiber-to-the-premises may unintentionally divert public funds to deliver fiber to “small” cells. Such diversions would reduce the industry’s costs to build 5G networks.
The newly introduced Radiofrequency Radiation Site Safety Information Act (House Resolution 7236), would severely limit liability of telecom corporations for injury caused by exposure to radiation emitted by telecom equipment if the corporation complies with FCC-determined RFR emissions. Concerned citizens can urge their Congressmembers to vote NO on on HR 7236. Tell Congress that we need a moratorium on 5G deployment until we have scientific evidence of its safety. We need legislation that protects local authority, public health and our environment.
Some communities may have grants to install power lines, cables and fiber optics underground. If you access these grants, be sure that the fiber is delivered all the way to each building or home.
What’s worthwhile now?
* To prevent the telecom industry from hijacking fiber for 5G, we’ll need to repeal federal legislation (i.e. the 1996 Telecommunications Act) that deregulated wireless services and separated wireless and wired systems.
* If your state has not yet passed a “streamline” bill, then act quickly to prevent such a bill. If your state has passed a “streamline” bill, work to repeal it.
* Get your municipality to join the National League of Cities’ effort to oppose bills that further decrease local authority over telecom facilities.
* Urge your Congressmembers to pass HR 530, which would repeal FCC Orders that deny local authority over 5G telecom facilities. At the state and municipal level, HR 530 could serve as a model for repealing local legislation that has streamlined deployment of telecom facilities.
* Petition legislators to enact firm precautionary due diligence on 5G’s engineering.
* Meanwhile, to reduce your Internet footprint and your household’s exposure to electromagnetic radiation, maintain (or restore) wired services as long as you can.
* Keep Wi-Fi off at night for at least 12 hours.
* Wait at least four years to upgrade any new device or service.
* Don’t allow children access to electronic devices until reading, writing and math are mastered on paper.

Increase in Dementia, Neurological Disease Deaths in US Increase 5-fold! from 1989 to 2015 - Wireless Radiation Implicated

From A. Tsaing:

Back in 2015, a study published by Pritchard et al   http://surgicalneurologyint.com/surgicalint_articles/neurological-deaths-of-american-adults-55-74-and-the-over-75s-by-sex-compared-with-20-western-countries-1989-2010-cause-for-concern/   showed that deaths due to neurological diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia were skyrocketing in 21 Western countries, with the increases in the United States being particularly acute.   It found that people were developing dementia a decade earlier compared to 20 years ago (2010 vs. 1990), with it being regularly diagnosed in people in their late 40s, and death rates from early onset dementia soaring.

The study found that deaths caused by neurological disease had risen significantly in adults aged 55 to 74 and more than doubled in the over-75 population overall.  The problem was particularly
acute in the United States, where neurological deaths in men aged over 75 have nearly tripled and in women increased more than fivefold.
Finland and USA have the highest neurological deaths.  USA used to be ranked #17 for neurological deaths in the age 55-74 group and #11 for the age >75 group from 1989-1991, but 20 years later in 2010 USA was ranked #2. Compared to 20 years ago, neurological deaths have increased significantly in the age>75 group, in ALL countries, ranging from 22% (Greece) to highest at 412% (USA).  In the age 55-74 group, US had the second highest increase of neurological deaths at 64%, meaning neurological diseases are starting earlier.  The Washington Post had reported on this study https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/people-are-developing-dementia-earlier-and-dying-of-it-more-a-study-shows/2015/08/06/599b16b8-3c0a-11e5-8e98-115a3cf7d7ae_story.html?wprss=rss_world

Now in 2019, Pritchard et al have published a follow-up study with data from 1990 through 2015 https://reader.elsevier.com/reader/sd/pii/S0306987719300040?token=A28224FE789266E33F047E92839326CAF82C1E74AD4FCD22960554B1D55F53A4245C81510D0E9A8FA95F79F66EEF5889  where they attribute increases in autismdyslexiaAttention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and neurological diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral SclerosisMultiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Early Onset DementiaMultiple System Atrophy and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy to

"increased background EMF that has become the tipping point-impacting upon any genetic predisposition, increasing multiple-interactive pollutants, such as rises in petro-chemicals, hormone disrupting chemicals, industrial, agricultural and domestic chemicals. The unprecedented neurological death rates, all within just twenty-five years, demand a re-examination of long-term EMF safety related to the increasing background EMF on human health.  The pace of increased neurological deaths far exceeds any Gompertzian explanation - that because people are living longer they are more likely to develop more age-related problems such as neurological disease. "

In a study of 469 healthy elementary and junior high school studentsstatistically significant higher prevalence of self-reported symptoms such as headache (P=0.009, table 1), myalgia (P=0.0002, table 2 ), palpitation (P=0.0001, table 2), fatigue (P=9×10-8, table 2), attention problems (P=0.0002, table 3) and nervousness (P=9×10-8, table 3) was found in students who had used mobile phones compared to those never used these phones. Furthermore, a statistically significant association was found between the time mobile phones were used in talk mode and the number of headaches per month (P=0.035), number of vertigo per month (P=0.036), number of sleeping problem per month (P=0.002), or even the site of headache (P=0)

3)  Pall, M.  “Microwave frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) produce widespread neuropsychiatric effects including depression” Journal of Chemical Neuroanatomy 75 (2016) 43–51

“Soviet and Western literature shows that much of the impact of non-thermal microwave exposures in experimental animals occurs in the brain and peripheral nervous system... These may be generated through roles of VGCC activation, producing excessive neurotransmitter/neuroendocrine release as well as oxidative/nitrosative stress and other responses…  Excessive VGCC activity has been shown to have roles in producing neuropsychiatric changes in humans. Two U.S. government reports from the 1970s to 1980s provide evidence for many neuropsychiatric effects of non-thermal microwave EMFs, based on occupational exposure studies. 18 more recent epidemiological studies, provide substantial evidence that microwave EMFs … can each produce similar patterns of neuropsychiatric effects…Among the more commonly reported changes are sleep disturbance/insomnia, headache, depression… fatigue/tiredness…concentration/attention dysfunction, memory changes, dizziness, irritability, loss of appetite... restlessness/anxiety, nausea, skin burning/tingling/dermographism and EEG changes. In summary, then, the mechanism of action of microwave EMFs, the role of the VGCCs in the brain, the impact of non-thermal EMFs on the brain, extensive epidemiological studies performed over the past 50 years, and five criteria testing for causality, all collectively show that various non-thermal microwave EMF exposures produce diverse neuropsychiatric effects.”

4) Buchner and Eger, 2011.  A study done on a German town (Rimbach) of 60 people before (Jan/Feb 2004) and after (thru July 2005) a cell tower installation showed statistically significant effects on neurotransmitters at peak cell phone signal exposure levels of 60-100 uW/m2. Noradrenaline and adrenaline INCREASED, while dopamine and PEA DECREASED.  Noradrenaline and adrenaline going up signify increased stress levels (or increased anxiety), and dopamine going down decreases ability to concentrate, and decreased PEA is implicated in ADD as low PEA appears in a large proportion of ADD (Ritalin, a chemical similar to PEA, is used in ADD treatment).

Study also says that children and chronically ill are more vulnerable to effects of wireless radiation, and that exposure to other wireless signals such as Wi-Fi amplifies the effects of the cell phone radiation on noradrenaline, adrenaline in children and the chronically ill (people with allergies)

Study showed that "long-term exposure of 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi may lead to adverse effects such as neurodegenerative diseases originated from the alteration of some miRNA expression. Results were statistically significant.  Long Term exposure [24 hours a day for 1 year] to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi radiation can alter expression of some of the miRNAs such as miR-106b-5p (adj p * _ 0.010) and miR-107 (adj p * _ 0.005). We observed that mir 107 expression is 3.3 times and miR-106b-5p expression is 3.65 times lower in the exposure group than in the control group. "

6) Saikhedkar N, et al. Effects of mobile phone radiation (900 MHz radiofrequency) on structure and functions of rat brain. Neurological Research, vol. 2, no. 6, 2014, pp. 2499-504.

Rats (age 30 days, 120 ¡ 5 g) were exposed to 900 MHz radio waves (cell phone) at an average SAR of 0.99 W/kg by means of a mobile hand set for 4 hours per day for 15 days. [Cell phones sold in the US are not to exceed a SAR of 1.6W/kg]  "A significant change in behavior, i.e., more anxiety and poor learning was shown by test animals as compared to controls and sham group. A significant change in level of antioxidant enzymes and nonenzymatic antioxidants, and increase in lipid peroxidation were observed in test rats. Histological examination showed neurodegenerative cells in hippocampal sub regions and cerebral cortex.  Discussion: Thus our findings indicate extensive neurodegeneration on exposure to radio waves. Increased production of reactive oxygen species due to exhaustion of enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants and increased lipid peroxidation are indicating extensive neurodegeneration in selective areas of CA1, CA3, DG, and cerebral cortex. This extensive neuronal damage results in alterations in behavior related to memory and learning."

"A neuronal damage of the kind described here may not have immediate demonstrable consequences, but in the long run it may result in reduced brain reserve capacity that might be unveiled by other late neuronal diseases. We cannot exclude the possibility that after some decades of daily (often) use, a whole generation of users may suffer from the negative effects, perhaps as early as in middle age."

Rats were exposed to 2.45 GHz Wi-Fi for 4 h/day for 45 days at 7.88W/m2 (=788uW/cm2) [FCC limit is 1000uW/cm2 for 30 minutes, so exposure within US limits]
“The exposed rats elicited memory decline and anxiety behavior. Exposure decreased activities of super oxide dismutase, catalase and reduced glutathione levels whereas increased levels of brain lipid peroxidation was encountered in the radiation exposed rats, showing compromised anti-oxidant defense. reduction in number of dendritic branching and intersections which corresponds to alteration in dendritic structure of neurons, affecting neuronal signaling. The study clearly indicates that exposure of rats to microwave radiation of 2.45 GHz leads to detrimental changes in brain leading to lowering of learning and memory and expression of anxiety behavior in rats along with fall in brain antioxidant enzyme systems.”

4 week exposure to 1.8GHz at 2.2 W/kg in mice increased anxiety-like behavior in rats. GABA levels decreased significantly after RF exposure.

Study found that RF-EMF exposure led to myelin sheath damage and hyperactivity-like behaviour in mice exposed to 835 MHz RF-EMF at a specific absorption rate (SAR) of 4.0 W/kg for 5 hours/day during 12 weeks.  Demyelination was induced in cortical neurons following prolonged RF-EMF exposure and suggests a potential cause of neurological or neurobehavioural disorders.

Review of the evidence for an association between myelin integrity and exposure to low-intensity radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs)
“Overall, evidence from in vivo and in vitro and epidemiological studies suggests an association between RF-EMF exposure and either myelin deterioration or a direct impact on neuronal conduction, which may account for many electrohypersensitivity symptoms. The most vulnerable are likely to be those in utero through to at least mid-teen years, as well as ill and elderly individuals.”

“New epigenetic studies are profiled in this review to account for some neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral changes due to exposure to wireless technologies. Symptoms of retarded memory, learning, cognition, attention, and behavioral problems have been reported in numerous studies and are similarly manifested in autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorders, as a result of EMF and RFR exposures where both epigenetic drivers and genetic (DNA) damage are likely contributors. Technology benefits can be realized by adopting wired devices for education to avoid health risk and promote academic achievement.”

Adult rats were exposed daily to EMR (frequency 1800 MHz, specific absorption rate 0.843 W/kg, power density 0.02 mW/cm2, modulated at 217 Hz) and sacrificed after 1, 2 and 4 months of daily EMR exposure as well as after stopping EMR for 1 month (after 4 months of daily EMR exposure). RESULTS: The exposure to EMR resulted in significant changes in DA, NE and 5-HT [serotonin] in the four selected areas of adult rat brain.
CONCLUSIONS: The exposure of adult rats to EMR may cause disturbances in monoamine neurotransmitters and this may underlie many of the adverse effects reported after EMR including memory, learning, and stress.
